At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph (BBBSG) it is our collective mission to provide life-changing mentoring programs that ignite the power and potential of all young people. We seek to put children and youth on a path to lifelong success and to change the trajectories of their lives in positive ways.

It is our primary goal is to promote the healthy development of the children and youth in our community through a variety of quality mentoring programs. We are committed to the recruitment of volunteers who are dedicated to upholding the values and principles of the organization and to those we serve. In all endeavours, we act with integrity and to create an environment that encourages teamwork and respect. Our vision is ‘All Young People Realize Their Full Potential’.

The Opportunity

Board Members play a critical role in providing governance, strategic guidance, and oversight to ensure BBBSG fulfills its mission. Responsibilities include attending board meetings, actively participating in fundraising initiatives, contributing to policy and strategic development, and serving as an ambassador for the organization within the community. Board Members work collaboratively with other members and the Executive Director to uphold organizational values and advance the mission of BBBSG.

Obtaining a clear vulnerable sector check is mandatory as a Board Member.

A time commitment of approximately 2 hours per month attending board meetings and 1-2 hours per month attending committee meetings is required; in addition to involvement in fundraising events.

Skills:
Although prior Board experience is an asset, we are soliciting applications from anyone interested in this unique opportunity. BBBSG offers orientation and ongoing training to all Board members. We are looking for volunteers who are committed to the mission of BBBSG, and who will prioritize attendance at regularly scheduled Board meetings. Although the Board is seeking candidates across a variety of spectrums, we are especially interested in those with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
•Finance/accounting
•Fundraising and planned giving
•Insurance and risk management
•Community relations
•Technology/IT
